In the medical analysis laboratory, the laboratory technician carries out analyses on biological samples such as blood, urine, tissues…. with the aim of detecting a disease, a deficiency or even a pregnancy!

What are the requirements to become a laboratory technician ?

Many qualities are recognised in laboratory technicians:

  • Ability to analyse, summarise and observe
  • A taste for teamwork
  • Patience, dexterity, precision, rigour ….

Indeed, the technician must respect protocols, as well as strict hygiene and safety rules. To do this, they must be methodical and rigorous in order to work safely in contact with numerous toxic substances or microbes.

Furthermore, the accuracy of the analyses depends on the correct diagnosis and therefore the correct treatment of patients.

 

Where to turn for training ?

To become a laboratory technician, you need at least to be post graduate.

The profession of laboratory technician opens up possibilities for professional development after a few years of practice.

Thus, the technician may be required to manage a team of laboratory assistants.

Finally, after 5 years of experience, he/she can go to management school and thus turn to teaching to share his/her passion for analysis!
